Now my pump pulls a vacuum close to one atmosphere of pressure, about 27" of Hg (mercury) which is a lot for a hollow wooden board. I taped the skins to the frame, slipped it all in the vacuum bag, sealed it up, connected it to the pump and sucked the bejesus out of it. Being the cautious bloke that I am I decided to do a dry (glueless) run first. Then came the day to glue the skins to the frame. I had spent and inordinate amount of effort and time measuring and scribing out the plans on butcher's paper, and meticulously building the frame. It all went terribly wrong the moment I attempted to use my vacuum pump and bag to put the deck and hull skins on. This wooden board was originally my second, and it started its life as a hollow wooden version. I still get a little emotional telling it so bare with me. Stuff up a kid's name and poor old Jack Goff will never hear the end of it from his mates in the school playground but go with a lame board name and probably no one will even raise an eyebrow.Īnyway, there's a prequel to this epic. I mean what were their parents thinking? Kids names are a little more critical than surfboard names though. Arthur Brain, Dwayne Pipe, Gaye Males, Jack Goff. I mean there have been some shockers in the kid naming space. A bit like deciding on a name for your kid but not really. Namaste Arborial Aquaphiles, and welcome to this installment of building a Nine-One Mal called.well I don't actually have a name for it yet but I'm open to suggestions. But I digress and am getting into therapeutic issues. How could I not smell like a dead wombat’s arse if all I ate was discarded KFC zinger scraps. Probably living out of a skip bin, eating discarded KFC zinger scraps, and habitually annoying decent folks for bus money and half smoked durries, wearing stained ghosties and smelling like a dead wombat’s arse. The truth is, that if I wasn’t married to her, who knows where I’d be. No Usain Bolt, more a suave, fat, hairy, middle aged chimp. Whatever! She’s too good for me anyway, very patient with my bad memory, degraded eyesight, my fat guts and thick rails. It makes me feel intellectually superior. I’m always “not listening”, “losing my wallet and my keys to the car”, not wanting to “want to do the dishes”.the list goes on and on.and I love using “quotes” when I write. I’m also an appallingly bad husband as well, just ask Mrs Wood Buddha. Looking forward to catching up with old faces and welcoming new ones.įor any more info contact: not really even a Buddhist but I thought the name Wood Buddha would elevate my reputation within the international wooden surfboard building community as a fringe guru wooden surfboard builder, and alternative surf craft aficionado to the dizzy heights of stardom. And there is nothing better that being on one you built yourself. The Alley in winter is often at it's best for a slide across the banks on a wooden board. There are many ways to build a wooden board and they will be on display on the day. If you don't build boards but want to find out more you could not be in a better place to ask all the questions you want. A great time to meet others with the same passion and to see what they have been up to. Please feel free to send pics and details of any boards you are building to share with others to wet their appetite.Īs you now know it is a gathering of like minded people who enjoy being challenged by spending countless hours in the shed building wooden boards. So if you are working on a project at the moment or thinking of starting one, now you have a reason to get started or stuck in to finishing it for August. Each year peoples experience grows and the level of skills and finish of boards is a testament to the long hours and effort being put in. We look forward to meeting other budding wooden board builders and the projects that they have been working on through the year. Sunday the 2nd of August is set down as the date for this year's Wooden Surfboard Day to be held in the park at Currumbin as in the past years.

And all those rectangles? Those boxes? They’re just stacking on top of each other, or sitting next to each other based on properties we set. Every single thing you see, all the content, the structure - it’s secretly made up of boxes. The web - all of it - is built on the box model. And subscribe on YouTube and finish the course on Webflow University as soon as you can. I, of course, or me, or however you say it, I have 100% all the time. Ahh, Because I get a lot of coffee when you subscribe, so it's good for me. If you're watching this on YouTube, please subscribe and like and subscribe and like again. Up next we are going to breathe life into it to talk about what happens when you style ing CSS. But that’s the basic power - a quick overview of HTML. We can delete stuff, we can change stuff (by the way we can even reorder stuff). And if we want to, we can start to mess with it. On any site, you can go in and inspect to see what kinds of elements make up that page. It’s made up of different types of elements (different HTML tags) that serve as building blocks. Again, it’s helpful to think of HTML as JUST the content on the page. Once we make that change? It’s now, of course.four dollars. And if we double click? Let’s try highlighting and just changing that price. Again, don’t worry about all the other code we’re just looking for the price. Let’s right click on the price, and we’ll go down and do the same thing: inspect. (When you’re inspecting, you’re doing that locally - only on your computer, and only temporarily - that’s why you don’t have to worry about breaking anything.)įinally, let’s change Apple’s prices. If at any point we refresh this page? If we go up and refresh? It’s back to the place we started. We can see it’s highlighted here, let’s click that element in the code. Except once we find the box that looks like it contains Google. Don’t worry - we’re not going to break anything. At any point, we can hover over and try to find the Google logo. Inspecting lets us see that.Īnd for the fourth part - the best part - when we inspect? We can change any of it. All of it is our HTML: the elements on the page. We can keep hovering, or we can even expand HTML elements to see that many of these elements have other elements inside. And each of those boxes? Is just a different HTML element. We’re only focused on the content here (the HTML).Īnd as we hover over, we’re just hovering over some of these things, all we’ll do is take a look at what happens. To the left is our HTML (our content) and to the right is our CSS (our styling and layout). Most of what we see here doesn’t matter right now. And at any time, we can right click on any part of the page and inspect. Here’s in a web browser (we’re using Chrome here, but you can do this in any modern browser - we’ll include how in the description). But the concept is critical: each of these types of HTML elements? Are the different kinds of building blocks you can use to build your page. And each of these tags are used to define the type of content. So is hydrogen.Īt its most basic level, HTML is just a bunch of different types of tags which you can use to build a page. Even divs - divs are just boxes that can group other elements together - those are elements, too. That last example? If we were to look at the code, we can see that all the kinds of elements that make UP the content. When we add the CSS? That’s where we control all our style and layout. Again what we’re showing here is just the HTML. Styling’s turned on, and again with - well, we had two good examples.įor a third, here’s another Apple site. Turn them back on? You get the idea.Ĭraigslist. Turn off the styles? Now it’s just the HTML. By the way, we’ll get to CSS in the next lesson.īut for now, here’s Nike. Here’s the Airpods site, but if we turn off all the styles? If we turn off our CSS? We see just the content. Yes, there are nuances we’ll cover down the road, but in this lesson, we’re going to cover five things: we’ll see what happens when we strip away styling and look at just the HTML, we’ll show examples of what kinds of HTML elements we can build with, we’ll show how you can you go in and inspect real-world sites, we’ll delete Google, and finally, we’ll change the prices on. HTML is just the basic structure (the boxes of content on the page). We’re going to take away all the styles in this lesson, and focus just on the HTML (the content on the page). Some may think that Daytona USA was a game that was too complicated to port to the Sega Saturn. However, it is not, the actual road in front of you will pop-in as well. You are driving on a bridge and the bridge is being constructed as you are on it! If it was just the scenery that was popping in as you drove, I could maybe deal with that. I have to say that the Sega Saturn port of Daytona has the worst pop-in I have come across in any video game! I legit cannot do justice just how bad the pop-in this game has is. Still, being able to play Daytona USA in our homes at the time was a huge deal. This was an arcade port so that is the reason why the content is rather shallow. You can play against a friend or do a time trial as well. You can race on their tracks, but there are mirror tracks as well. You get to pick from a handful of stock cars and you need to try and win the races. The game also has Team Hornet inform the player of turns and traffic, and will comment on your driving if you crash.Let’s start with the point of the game. Each player assumes the roll of a different coloured Hornet, and each cabinet must be ready to race and agreed on a course before this can happen (otherwise the game may start up with less than eight players). It was the first arcade game ever to allow up to eight cabinets to be linked together, with each player capable of competing in the same race. Most notably, however, is Daytona USA's multiplayer features. The computer analyses the player's skill during the first lap, and will instruct rival cars to move out of the way if it feels the player is doing poorly (while doing the opposite if the player registers a fast time). Crashing into walls or other cars can inflict damage leading to poor performance - to remedy this each level has a pit lane, which, by sacrificing some time, can fix the car.ĭaytona USA has smarter AI than many other driving games from around this period. The game features both automatic and manual transmissions, the latter requiring use of the gear stick and which, if used properly, can lead to a faster car than the automatic. Player one's car by default is coloured red and blue (the manual car uses a red, black and yellow colour scheme), and can be seen at the forefront of all game covers, flyers and similar media related to the series with the exception of Daytona USA 2 and its update, Daytona USA 2: Power Edition. The original arcade release has the player drive a stock car, known as the "Hornet" (number 41, producer Toshihiro Nagoshi's "lucky number") loosely based on a Chevrolet Beretta, racing against numerous other cars around three selectable tracks. Daytona USA and all of its sequels and rereleases (except Sega Racing Classic, in which case someone else already held the arcade license) have been officially sponsored by the International Speedway Corporation. It is loosely based on the NASCAR racing event at the Daytona International Speedway, located in real life in Daytona Beach, Florida in the United States of America. It was initially given a limited release in Japan in 1993 to gauge public reaction to the new model hardware before its full, international release the following March. 4 /5Daytona USA is a Sega Model 2 arcade racing game developed by Sega AM2. We used to pride ourselves on basically having no Glock as outright winners. When sexing by beak it is important to note that mature male Javas have a swollen area at the base of the beak and hens do not. There are other ways to sex Javas such as beak sexing (please refer to photos below), eyering sexing, pelvis sexing and DNA sexing. You can write this down in your records, catch the birds up later and band all the hens one color and the males another. To solve this you can put a different color plastic band on all your Javas and when you hear one singing notice it’s band color. The problem with spotting them in the flight is catching the same bird that was singing!! If you have a flight full of Javas it will be easier to pick out males because they sing a lot more in a flight or you can try introducing a new Java into the flight to intice the males. If the bird in question is a male it will start to sing after about a week of solitude. In order to hear the bird sing you can separate them from all other birds. ONLY the male Java Finch sings!! Young male birds will attempt to sing at about 1-2 months after they fledge. They can be very difficult to sex especially with young birds! There are four ways to distinguish the gender of Java Finches but only one has 100% accuracy so let’s start there. Sexing a Java Finch is the hardest part of owning one. These birds average 5-6 inches (13-15cm) and are very hardy birds. Both sexes look identical with only slight differences in beak shape and color. Javas have red-pink beaks, legs and eye circles. The belly is a cinnamon brown color and the under tail coverts are white. A blue-gray covers the bird’s mantle, back, secondary wings, chest and rump. The primary flight wings feathers and upper tail converts are also black. In the normal form the head, nape and chin are black with white cheek patches outlined in black.
